I like what I do

My education was personal and transformative, not as a singular event but over a lifetime. It has been a source of identity and meaning and I've loved every minute of it.  It is because I still want to learn and find the best way to do so through teaching, that I have become an accomplished tutor.

I like students and build good relationships

I have known and appreciated hundreds, perhaps thousands of students and watching them flourish has been a joy.  I believe that everything flows from human relationships and I have always been able to relate to my students.

I know what it's like to struggle

Educational success came late for me, I know what it’s like to leave school with low expectation and equally I know the delight of academic achievement.  I have a particular appreciation not only for the skills necessary for academic success, but of the personal challenge this represents

I'm good at it

Throughout my career I've sought to combine academic excellence with a very personal approach.  I like irreverence as well as intelligence and dislike the formal and pompous.  This has proved successful and my track record inclueds my students taking places at Cambridge, City, Edinburgh, Essex, Kings, L.S.E, Manchester, Queen Mary, U.C.L, Sheffield, S.O.A.S, and many other institutions.  The the college managers rated the last 11 years of my teaching as 'outstanding' and I have many enthusiastic testimonials.

"Personally, my experience with Bernard was one incomparable to any other. Last year he was my Politics and International Relations teacher and thanks to his help I will be attending a top university studying the same. Bernard was easily the most helpful, insightful and all around wonderful teacher I've ever had. He has extensive knowledge on multiple subjects and is able to incorporate that to each student's different learning techniques appropriately. I am very sad to be leaving his teaching and will miss him"
